This is a coordinated course, meaning that multiple instructors are all teaching the same course and I am NOT in charge. And because I am not picky about pop music, they don’t have to be recent or award-winning (or even very good LOL)! However, because I teach adults at the college level, they do not have to be appropriate for school-aged kids. In order to be included, the songs have to:ġ) help me advance the unit or lesson objectives in some way, in more than one way actually.Ģ) have an ear-worm level catchiness or be great examples of a style - I want my students to voluntarily listen to the songs I choose long after the course is over if at all possible.ģ) represent a variety of first-person perspectives, ideally including diversity in many ways and giving students insight into the Spanish-speaking world (including Spanish-speakers in their own community). Today I started to work on how I can integrate some catchy songs with simple choruses into my first semester course. I am two weeks away from teaching a first-semester Spanish course at my university that is geared toward true beginners. Scroll down to find my Google Slides and handout for the song “Criminal” all linked and ready for you to copy, adapt, edit, and use if they might be useful for you.

TL DR: I am teaching a pop song of the week for all 14 weeks of my fall 2019 first-semester Spanish course.
